Hardbanding

Drill pipe hardbanding protects drill pipes from abrasion and other wear and tear. Workers typically weld the wire onto the tool joint. The welded metal insulates the pipe from direct contact with the casing or well wall, protecting it from friction.

Drill pipe replacement is expensive in terms of both cost and downtime. Aside from extending the service life of drill pipes and other equipment, drillers can substantially reduce operating costs and minimize time spent on replacing or dealing with worn-out equipment by hardbanding drill pipes. It also protects casing from excessive wear and tear.

Kooben GradeDescription
KB 100A type of ferrous-based flux-cored welding wire. Among the technical characteristics of this grade is the addition of a special alloy which allows good control over coagulation performance and the weld pool.
KB 150A complete upgrade of Kooben’s popular KB 100. It is more casing friendly, has a higher hardness, and has better wear performance. It can also be welded normally without preheating or shielding gas and produces a deposit with an excellent appearance and properties.
KB 300High hardness averaging 62 HRC, excellent toughness, and high wear resistance. The carbides and other hard phases in this hardbanding wire are closely arranged and dispersed in the martensite.
KB 350Creates a deposit with a large number of fine-grained hard phase compounds on substrates with certain hardnesses and toughnesses. These hard phase compunds are arranged closely together. Reducing the size of the high-hardness hard phase compounds and reducing stress at the time of formation makes the deposit free of cracks.
